Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry


About Us 

Preventive and Community Dentistry is a means of preventing dental diseases by proper and timely planning and implementation of preventive measures, with dental health care of the poor and underprivileged masses being an important responsibility.

The Department of Community Dentistry at Saraswati Dental College and Hospital, Lucknow is actively involved in the training of undergraduate students and interns. We at Saraswati Dental College provide dental service at the doorstep of the rural and the underprivileged sections of the community. The department is equipped with a Mobile Dental Unit consisting of a portable dental chair, compressor, ultrasonic scalers, aerotoer and micrometer hand pieces.


UG Training Program 

  • The Subject of Community Dentistry is an integral part of Dental Council of India curriculum. On the academics front lectures are regularly held for BDS IInd year students and continues till the IIIrd year BDS.

  • Field work and camps are arranged on Saturday of every week for undergraduate students.

  • Various teaching aids are used to enhance the studentís knowledge.

  • Projects on various aspects of educating and motivating patients about dental problems, its prevention and treatment are conducted by students under the able guidance of their teacher.

  • Seminars are held every week on Liquid Crystal Display Projectors by students, extensive research and uphill struggle is encouraged to bring the best out of the students.

 

Field Activities

The Department regularly provides field programmes encompassing diagnostic and treatment camps, community dental health education, school dental health programmes and fluoride application programmes.

  1. Working camps have been organized twice by the department in alliance with the Indian Medical Association in the rural areas. A working camp on fluorosis has also been conducted.

  2. Diagnostic camps are held every week by the department. To increase the awareness of dental health among school going children, visit by various schools such as Study Hall Lucknow, have been structured by the department to endorse school dental health education as the oral habits of children have a major role to play in the future disease statistics of our country.

  3. A Satellite clinic has been set up at Arogya Dham, near Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow to cater to rural needs. Diagnosis and free treatment along with community dental health practices and programmes are imparted.

 

Pulse Polio Drive 

The Department has been actively involved in the eradication of Polio from our nation through Pulse Polio camps in cooperation with the Rotary Club.
