POST GRADUATE TEACHING PROGRAMME IN PROSTHODONTICS

     
                                                 
    Duration of the Course: 3 years                                
                                                 
     

The  objective of the post graduate curriculum is to make the candidate  understand the basic principles of Prosthodontics as related to Complete Denture Prosthesis, Removable and Fixed Partial prosthesis, Maxillofacial Prosthodontics, Basic surgical and Prosthodontic management of Implant cases and the materials related to Prosthodontics.

The Programme also include-head and neck anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry, general pathology, microbiology, medicine and surgery with stress on dental materials. The candidate has to complete the pre-clinical assignments and later undertake the treatment of clinical cases.

The candidate has to present seminars as scheduled and also participate in Journal Club.

The thesis topic should be selected with the approval of the guide. The protocol should be submitted to the Rajeev Gandhi University within the time stipulated by the university. The thesis should be carried out during the course and submitted before the last date of assigned by the university.

     
           
                                                 
    SYLLABUS FOR PROSTHETIC DENTISTRY -  MDS                  
                                 
     

Its practical, clinical, and practical courses in Prosthetic Dentistry shall broadly comprise of the following:

1.      Study of Human masticatory apparatus and its function in health, in deranged occlusal status and in conditions incidental to partial or complete loss of teeth and/or facial structures.

2.      Study of the principles, procedures and techniques of constricting and maintaining various types of dentures and allied prosthesis including the material used.

3.      Study of biological and mechanical consideration related to various types of dentures and allied prosthesis.

4.      A candidate should complete not less then 30 cases comprising of all types of prosthetic appliances.

5.      The M. D. S written examination shall consist of four papers, out of which two shell be pertaining to the subject, one in Applied Basic sciences and one shall be an Essay. Each paper shall be of 3 hours duration.

Clinical and practical and viva voce examination of not less then two days duration involving case studies, diagnosis and treatment planning and execution of commonly used prosthetic appliances and replacements.
