India continues to take rapid strides in advancing its acumen to successfully treat complex diseases of the human body and mind. There is a strong accent on establishment of centres of excellence for patientcare both in the public and private sector. Yet, woefully the disparity between the treatment available and its accessibility continues. Majority of the Indian population is rural based and a large proportion of the population resides in the areas which are far flunked but also out of the catchment area of any healthcare facility. Additionally, primary health centres and community health centres are often poorly staffed and ill-equipped to render primary patient care. Road transport is mostly unavailable, expensive, and no more a quick mode of patient transfer (due to heavy traffic) leading to increased morbidity particularly in emergencies.in my opinion, it is imperative to overhaul the healthcare system with particular emphasis on healthcare delivery to patients and remote areas if the objective for ‘health for all’ has to be met. A sustained effort to make healthcare delivery accessible, affordable and beneficial to the poor masses is vital to meaningful upliftment of healthcare availability for all. The country boasts of a large pool of treatment personnel, cyclic posting of physicians to outreach centres would strengthen the fabric of healthcare delivery system in the country.
