‘Stepping back from the canvas’ A strange thing happens when artists work so closely with a piece. Over time we can get a type of what I can call a ‘tunnel vision’. Somehow, certain things become invisible or blurry. Pulling back from it and viewing it from a distance allows your mind to relax and take in the whole composition at once in its entirety rather than viewing it from a more microscopic viewpoint.
Opportunities are everywhere, you just have to find and act upon them, even if that means taking a step back. Sometimes it’s hard to do that because it seems to look after your mental health is a commitment. But this commitment is important and is not in any way a negative reflection on your personality. It is important to take breaks when you need to, to stop yourself from reaching burnout and it’s ok to talk about your reasons why.
Make sure you focus on your personal evolution than comparing with your peer circle. We are been taught ‘sky is the limit’, we just have to be open to growing and recognizing opportunity when it shows it’s face, even when it means to come a little back to move a little forward. Progression sometimes means taking a step back to get a better traction.
We fight too many battles that don’t matter. If that battle is not between you and your destiny then it’s a distraction. Learn to pick. You don’t have to fight every battle. Learn to let some things go.
If you are not moving forward, you are moving backwards- Unless the regression is to serve progress..
