New parents are always excited for all the “firsts” in their child’s life. The first time your baby smiles, laughs or rolls over on their own are all amazing milestones in your child’s development. But among all the firsts, the eruption of baby teeth isn’t always an easy transition. In fact, many experienced parents do not look forward to this time. Teething can bring with it fevers and an achy, crabby baby. But what if your child’s teething hasn’t begun yet? Well, not to worry, some babies take a little extra time to start the teething process.
The Timeline
• The first teeth appear anywhere between 3 and 18 months, although 4-6 months is the most common time frame.
• The first to appear are typically the lower middle teeth.
• Thereafter, expect about one tooth per month until all 20 teeth have emerged, a process that is typically completed by age 2 & a 1/2 years.
When should one be worried?
If your baby is on the late side in getting teeth, it's no indication that there are any problems with her overall development however, if your child is 18 months or older and has not had any teeth erupt from their gums, it’s a good idea to make an appointment for your child at the dentist to rule out the reason behind.
✔️✔️And REMEMBER- Regardless of when your baby's teeth start to come in, their first dental checkup should happen by their first birthday
