Post COVID era witnessed a surge in Mucormycosis Cases (Black Fungus). The Department of OMFS at SDC successfully diagnosed and treated 13 cases of Mucormycosis.
A 52-year-old male patient with long-standing uncontrolled diabetes reported to us with the complaint of pain and pus discharge from the left side of the upper jaw since one month. On examination left side of the upper jaw was completely necrosed and a clinical diagnosis of mucormycosis was made which was confirmed with biopsy. Surgery was performed where the complete upper jaw was removed along with debridement of bilateral maxillary sinus under the coverage of antifungal drugs.
